Who needs comic book heroes when you have a real Wolverine? Yamaha dropped a pair of Wolverine RMAX 1000 models onto the market this week in both X2 and X4 configurations. Driver-centric highlights include an all-new chassis featuring a new engine, new Yamaha Drive-Mode (D-Mode) power-delivery system and the latest FOX iQS suspension technology.

“The all-new Wolverine RMAX2 1000 and RMAX4 1000 models are stout, powerful, and the most off-road capable recreational Side-by-Sides on the market today,” said Yamaha Motorsports Group marketing manager Steve Nessl. “These all-new Wolverine models are proudly assembled in the U.S. to deliver next-level comfort, versatility, and Yamaha’s legendary durability and reliability. The RMAX 1000 lineup answers the call to what off-road enthusiasts have been demanding:  extreme performance, capability, versatility and durability.”

Yamaha scaled up the power in the RMAX 1000 models, creating a best-in-class 999cc DOHC, eight-valve, parallel twin that revs to a 8,500 rpm redline. Power is delivered through Yamaha’s proven Ultramatic CVT drive system – redesigned to accommodate the increase in power and maintain constant belt-tension while idling or engaged in high-rpm and high-torque situations. “After countless hours of extreme durability testing and decades of proven performance, CVT belt concerns are eliminated with the unprecedented and industry-exclusive Yamaha 10-Year Belt Warranty,” Nessl notes.

Until we can get some seat time, the bullet points will have to tell the tale of the X-Men… um, Wolverine RMAX 1000:

-New category-dominating 999cc DOHC, eight-valve, parallel-twin engine with an aggressive 8,500 rpm redline delivering the highest power in its class.

-Yamaha D-Mode:  Integrating the advanced and established Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) “Drive-by-Wire” system adapted from Yamaha’s YZF-R1 supersport motorcycle, Yamaha created the only SxS offering three custom drive modes providing optimum power delivery and engine braking while still utilizing full engine power to match unique terrain and driving styles.

-Heavy-duty, comfort-focused, and easy-adjust FOX 2.0 QS3 suspension complements the class-leading ground clearance and allows riders to quickly tune their shocks without tools for a variety of terrain. LE models are equipped with FOX’s Intelligent Quick Switch (iQS) technology, allowing drivers to adjust suspension settings from the cockpit on-the-fly.

-30-inch tires on the Wolverine RMAX2 1000 and 29-inch tires on the Wolverine RMAX4 1000:  Standard RMAX2 1000 models are equipped with the versatile GBC Dirt Commander 2 radial tires developed alongside the vehicle, while the popular Maxxis Carnivore radials are supplied on XT-R and LE editions. The RMAX4 1000 is armed with Yamaha-exclusive Maxxis Carnage radial tires on XT-R and LE models and GBC Dirt Commanders on standard versions.

-The Yamaha Adventure Pro powered by Magellan is now dash-mounted and fully-integrated on XT-R and LE models, yet lockable and removable for maximum exploration and adventure sharing.

-Wolverine RMAX2 1000 features a piston-assist tilting cargo bed, while the Wolverine RMAX4 1000’s simple-sliding rear seats allow for flexible storage or passenger solutions. Both vehicles boast a 600-pound bed capacity, 2-inch hitch receiver, and 2,000-pound towing capacity.

-The new RMAX 1000 models are proudly Assembled in the USA and backed by an unprecedented, industry-exclusive Yamaha 10-Year Belt Warranty.
