Documentation: Maintain detailed records of dealer and customer interactions, including inquiries, complaints, and resolutions.   • Tech & Quality Research Specialist

    Description:
    Responsible for the accumulation and compilation of product failure data and technical information for the production of detailed technical reports relevant to product improvement. Performs necessary product and/or component testing to assist SMC Japan in resolving product quality issues. Provides technical assistance to other departments to help them achieve their operational goals. Principal Tasks
    1. Prepare and submit technical reports to SMC Japan using investigation and correlation of information. Information sources utilized include but are not limited to direct field analysis, field surveys, Technical Department field personnel, warranty system data, dealer interviews, customer communications, Customer Relations personnel, and outside media sources.
    2. Resolve technical problems by direct field analysis, which may include problem confirmation testing and evaluation of countermeasure parts and procedures. Coordinate new product modification operations at storage warehouses as required.
    3. Conduct a complete inspection and evaluation of returned warranty parts. Install and test returned parts as necessary to verify the claimed defect. Report all pertinent data to SMC Japan. Provide failed parts to SMC for their product quality investigation purposes.
    Scope of Authority
    • Under specific direction, act independently to respond to special projects and requests from SMC on problem-solving situations requiring immediate attention, with all motorcycle division personnel to provide an answer or opinion.
    Minimum Qualifications: Work Experience
    • Three to five years of experience as a technical representative for a motorcycle manufacturer or distributor, or 10 years of experience as a technician at a motorcycle dealer, with a minimum of 3 years of service management experience.
    • Directly related work experience from other fields may be considered.
    Education Requirements
    • High School graduate required. Completion of manufacturing or industry-recognized secondary technical training.
    Required Skills
    • Strong demonstrable verbal and written communication skills are required.
    • Strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to understand, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical systems are required.
    • Skill in the proper operation of motorcycles and ATVs is required.
    • Must be proficient in the use of computers and the Microsoft Office suite, in particular, Excel, Word, and Access programs.

    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
    • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    • Must possess mobility to work in a service shop setting, operate motorcycles and ATVs, and use standard office equipment, including a computer and scanner/copier.
    • You must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Must possess the vision, hearing, and speech required to operate machinery and equipment and to communicate clearly both in person and via telephone.
